Laugh and Thought

- It is true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

- I told my wife that a husband is like a fine wine: he gets better with age. The next day, she locked me in the cellar.

- Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily, this is not difficult.

Desert Rose

A long time ago, in a land far away...

The hero offers the heroine a token of love in the form of a beautiful "Desert Rose". After an instant of surprise on feeling the weight of the strange object, the heroine accepts the gift with a grateful smile.

What are Desert Roses?

In Saudi Arabia Desert Roses are found in the flat brine-rich Sabkhas (desert areas) which are prevalent in the Eastern Province. A Desert Rose is made of gypsum crystals in connection with sand that crystallizes in a unique rosette growth pattern. Such crystals are formed when high tides bring seawater into the Sabkha and the water becomes cut-off from the sea and evaporates, eventually causing salt deposition and crystal formation. To find Desert Roses you must dig down one to three feet into the wet sand.

An Arabian legend claims that Allah blesses the person who finds a Desert Rose with good luck.

The Edge of The World

Acacia Valley is part of the old Darb al Hijaz used for centuries by travelers moving east-west across the Arabian Peninsula. Today the valley is a rich agricultural area with fields of fruit and vegetables.

Darb:

way or route

Escarpment:

A steep slope or long cliff that results from erosion or faulting and separates two relatively level areas of differing elevations.

Wadi:

A valley that remains dry except during the rainy season.
